OEM Drive Shaft
In
vehicles with 3.5" or less lift, we have had good success with replacing
this drive shaft with a conventional double cardan
(3 U joints) type drive shaft. Many people are happy with this drive shaft
in vehicles having greater amounts of lift. A lot has to do with what you
expect from the vehicle.
For the CV drive shaft itself we have two different options available,
depending on what you want/need in regards to quality, cost & features.
Either shaft would be built brand new, complete with our “Gold
Seal” joints & balanced. A drive shaft built from all premium quality
components using our S spline is $269. I have no concerns with this shaft in
regards to a strength issue. Or our top of the line shaft, built with all
premium quality components and the long travel, full length ( XC or XB) slip
& spline is $299. For long term dollar spent, I consider the latter to be
the best value.
Alternatively,
if you have more lift than this and or want the smoothest possible
configuration, I would suggest our multiple double
cardan drive shaft (4 U joints). This drive shaft can only be built
with our S spline. The cost for this shaft is $479.
 Either
of these will require changing the pinion flange ($55 or $60) and the
out-put flange from the transfer case. In order to correctly identify the
transfer case out-put yoke we may need a spline count. If this is required,
remove the nut and washer that is in the center of the flange and count the
splines. There will be either 26 or 32. Plan on $60-$90 for this yoke.
We will also need a measurement for the length. Refer to the attached art
for a close representation. You can measure either "face to face" which is
just inside the pilot, or "lip to lip" of the flange (see picture below).
